Book trailers are fun and engaging, but what are they learning?

 

1) literary analysis   

     Characterization

     Setting

     Conflict

     Theme

     Tone

 

2) Using textual support

     Establishing character, conflict or theme with direct quotes from the text

     Using direct quotes from reviewers

 

3) Researching and using search engines

     Finding images and reviewer texts on and offline

     Using keywords for more productive search

 

 

4) Using graphic organizers to identify sequence and hierarchy

     storyboarding

     creating and nesting files for better organization of assets

 

5) Digital Literacy

     high contrast and low contrast images

     identifying formats from extensions

     proper saving of image and sound files

     organizing information online

     working in microsoft moviemaker

     modifying images in photoshop

     saving to flash drives and hard drives

     understanding how software finds and utilizes assets

 

6) Multimedia Literacy 

     Using images, sound and video to represent information 

     Learning film terminology

     Recognizing how visual details can establish character, setting conflict and theme

     Using images, music and pacing to communicate ideas

     Considering typography and palette as tools for communicating tone

 

7)  Mechanics

     Proper use of grammar, usage, spelling, capitalization and punctuation
